INTEGRATED TOUCHSCREENS

Touchscreen interfaces are increasingly being used as a protective window and input device over many types of displays.  Touchscreens save space as no keyboard or mouse is required and are usually more reliable than mechanical buttons.  Often it makes sense to integrate touchscreens into the windows of a Flex Membrane, PCB Membrane, or a Rubber Keypad.  MSK provides a one-stop solution for this integration so you can reduce suppliers and get your assemblies in an expedient fashion.

RUBBER KEYPADS

A silicone rubber keypad is a better solution for some higher-volume applications that require raised, more responsive tactile feedback.  They are generally compression-molded and can be made with our without carbon conductive pads attached to the bottom of the keys. Typical designs feature a flex circuit or rigid PCB board as the base substrate of the assembly, and depending on complexity, MSK can also provide these sub-layers so there is no need to search for multiple suppliers to manufacture your complete keypad assembly.  Adding backlighting to the keypads is also possible so your device can function well in the dark.

MEMBRANE SWITCHES

MSK membrane switch keypads typically consist of a printed polyester graphic layer separated by printed-silver on polyester or copper polyimide flex circuit layers and then backed with high-tack adhesive.  There are many different variations and additions that can be made, for example if key indicator lights or backlighting are required then miniature LEDs can be embedded on the circuit, or if ESD (electrostatic discharge) is a concern then a foil shielding layer can be introduced to the stack-up.  If you need design help, call now and one of our engineers can talk with you about your custom design.
